We were asked to write a song for this wonderful animal rescue group, Forgotten Friends of Long Island, to celebrate their first anniversary in USA.

It was our pleasure to write a song to express the feelings our four legged friends may have when they become unwanted and arrive in an animal shelter for the first time in their lives.

We wanted to show the confusion, distress and the unfairness of being given away, of being set apart from everyone and everything you have come to regard as 'home'.

And, in doing this we hope we have shown how grateful we are that there are people like the volunteers of Forgotten Friends in our world today.

Happy 1 year Anniversary to you wonderful people!

YOU ROCK!!

Love from Maria & Paul xx

'Forgotten Friend'

I'm your forgotten friend
I'm your passing thought
I'm the one you couldn't keep
Though you thought you could
I'm the missing link
I'm your family time
I'm the broken past
Way down the line

So I pass the hours
Look to the gate
Who comes for me this day?
Who will turn my fate?
Who needs a friend?
My loyal love?
Where loneliness ends
There is God above

Now I have food to eat
And a place to stay
And those I meet
Don't turn me away
But I need to know
I will always be
Right by your side
Won't you care for me?

I'm a forgotten friend
I'm a lonely boy
The one you bought
Like a childhood toy
I'm the cheeky girl
Who grew up too tall
I'm the cherished one
You forgot to call

I'm the furniture
You replace with wear
In the shadows now
You don't know I'm there
I'm the chosen one
You chose to give up
I'm a big boy now
Not a tiny pup
I'm the waste of space
The messy mutt
The vets bill walking
And I'm down on my luck

Won't you spare a thought
For the ones like me
The ones who can't talk
Who will forever be
A number in the pound
Cast out but never homeward bound
A forgotten friend
Yours in loyalty, in friendship
To the end, to the end

I'm your forgotten friend
I'm your passing thought
I'm the one you couldn't keep
Though you thought you could
I'm the missing link
I'm your family time
I'm the broken past
Way down the line...

I'm your forgotten friend
